Also very frustrating, live and learn.Īnd oh man was I happy I did! I LOVE the look of the thiner frame and thicker door frame, easier to build if you ask me. A lot of that wood was damaged, I wasn’t able to reuse it. I wanted it done right and I wanted to love it, not just like it and settle. But this was going to be permanently installed in my house. So I changed it all! Which can be frustrating, doing all this work and then taking steps backwards. Thats why I love this process, learning along the way.Īlso thinking before you grab your drill bit and try to take it off on the sharp part. Yes wood splits sometimes, It was super frustrating, but I figured it out.

Then you put a 1/4″ piece of plywood down into the routed part of the door frame. My 2 first doors, they weren’t perfect, and when your making shaker style inset doors, they have to be perfectly straight, no room for error I decided on what style I wanted, which are shaker style doors, the boxes of the cabinets do not have a toe kick so they are flush with the ground.

I spent a lot of time YouTubing videos on how to assemble a cabinet box and the doors, and even different types of cabinets. It was so fun! And through the bulk of the beginning of this project, I had some very good friends who were willing to help me rip the plywood, and even assemble a couple boxes (you know who you are) and I am forever grateful. I started this process back in February, I didnt have my own table saw at the time, so an awesome friend let me use his workshop, table saw, and basically anything else I needed.

The thing about being a Diy woodworker is learning as you go, through trial and error, and Id like to mention a lot of error. I didn’t know a thing about building cabinets. Now I say possibly, because back in February I had no idea how to build cabinets (which is this first phase and bottom of the built in) but I was very determined, maybe too determined, but non the less these were going to happen! And you should know one things about me, I don’t want to pay someone for something I can possibly do myself. But here we are!Īs you may know, a built in entertainment center can cost a lot of money! Like way too much money. It took longer than it should’ve (kids, life, covid). I wanted to finally post about the first part of my built in entertainment center.
